applications.

how to a p p l y

- In CFUD, we have two categories for characters: campers and counselors. Campers are characters that are or appear to be age 21 or under, while counselors are age 22 and older. When applying for a counselor-aged character, we ask that you make certain to include the job field in the application!

- You may only apply for one character each week. Not two. Not ten. One. While there is a twelve character limit currently in [community profile] cfud, you can only play three from the same series. You can apply as many times as you want for a certain character as long as they remain open.

- We have a special form for applications for reapps — please see the bottom of this post for more information.

- When sending in your app to lolcampappslol at gmail.com, either paste the application into the body of the e-mail or attach it as a .txt file. We do not accept Google documents! Nor do we accept links to livejournal posts with the application in them.

- Please check your formatting before sending your application in! However, if there are any problems, we'll try to contact you immediately to help resolve it.

- If your application is accepted, you will not be allowed to defer your playing until a more convenient time (vacation weeks, end of the school year, after a hiatus, etc.). If you do not currently have the time to play, then please refrain from applying until you do.

- Moderators reserve the right to decline applications prior to the voting rounds.

- Keep in mind that the playerbase will be voting on whether to accept your application or not! We strongly urge any potential new players to peruse the voting community ([community profile] campfuckuvote/[livejournal.com profile] campfuckuvote) to get a feel for what voters are looking for.

the application f o r m

The CFUD application consists of two sections: the canon section and the character sample section. You have two options for the character sample — you may either do a first-person sample or fill out a character survey. Both options will detailed.

The application is as follows:

Your Name/Alias:
Age: (be honest. we won't kick you out for being thirteen or eighty-three.)
Character:
Series: (what show, book, manga, etc.) If you can, supply a link.
Character Age: What it says on the tin.
Job: If you are applying for a counselor, give your character a job that you think would be fun for them to have in a summer camp! It can be anything your heart desires as long as it adheres to the rules. Be creative!

Canon: This section should be used to introduce the character you're applying for and the series they're from to the voter! It's your chance to show how you perceive the character — their goals, their way of speaking, relationships shared with others, how they interact with a group, whatever. Not everyone may be familiar with the canon you are applying from, so be sure to describe it as best as you can!

Generally speaking, this section tends to be two - three paragraphs. Any more is probably Too Much, and if you're talking more about what your character does and the series itself, you may want to consider going back in and removing some of that in favor of more on your character's personality et all!

Sample Post:

Here is where you have two options.

1) First person sample — Your sample post (a minimum of three hundred words) is your chance to show how you will write the character. Make sure it is in character and strives to be humorous! If you choose this option, it should be like an actual journal entry — a monologue, and not straight-out prose. Focus on getting the voice across and show voters how your character would interact with the camp environment! Given that, your character should be interacting with Camp itself to some degree. Various IC landmarks and other creatures/things that can be found in the camp are detailed here. Go nuts!

Action tags are allowed in applications. However, we strongly urge applicants to focus more on getting the character's "voice" across. If action tags help with that, awesome! Above all else, show who your character is and how they would be played in this game.

2) In Character Survey — you may pick and choose from a pool of questions and have your character answer them. There are only two required questions; after that, you may do them in any order and you can answer up to ten questions. Like the other option, your responses combined should be a minimum of three hundred words. Answer the questions as your character would! If images become necessary, we ask that they be linked. Feel free to get creative with this option — the goal is to show how you would play your character in this game.

For your convenience, here is the application form:

Send a FORMATTED (include all HTML tags) email to lolcampappslol at gmail.com with the subject line "CAMPER/COUNSELOR - [insert your character's name here]". Applications are always open, so feel free to send it in whenever and it will be posted by Friday evening.

Beta posts frequently go up in [community profile] cfo. Feel free to utilize those if they're to your fancy! You are not required to have a beta for your app, though.

the voting p r o c e s s

Your sample entry will be posted to the community ([community profile] campfuckuvote) without your name or age, followed by a poll. Members will vote either "in" or "out" in regards to your entry, judging it by its voice, humor, and coherency. In order to be accepted into the RP, your "in" vote must score at least 70% in the poll.

You will not be voted on anything beyond the application itself, such as compromised anonymity, placement in rounds, camper/counselor ruling, etc. If any of these situations arise, contact the mods immediately. Keep in mind that your conduct as an apper IS taken into consideration, good and bad. Asking for constructive criticism anonymously is fair game!

re a p p s

We now have a special process for characters who have previously been in camp! If you dropped a character in the past three years and played them for six months or more, you may fill out this application form and submit it to lolcampappslol at gmail.com. These applications are mod-approved only and bypass the voting community. This is only if you do not intend to reboot the character entirely! Each player is allowed to use this form twice per calendar year and the moderators reserve the right to request that they submit a new app for voting if need be.

The application is as follows:

Character Name:
Series:
Age:
Job (if applicable): --> if a new job is selected, explain why in a sentence or less.

Previous character journal: (so that we may peruse it and see how much use it got)
Link to the previous application: (to see the comm's previous approval)
Link to 40 comments total from no more than 3 threads:
When did you play this character? For how long?:
Describe your character in general when they were played in camp: For this, we are looking for some introspection. What was your character's mindset like? How did they deal with camp during their time there? How has this character shifted from canon over the course of their stay in camp?
Has anything changed in regards to your character? Tell us how your character is now:

In general, we are looking for about 200 words total between the "describe your character" and "what has changed" sections. It's perfectly fine to write more, but we'd like to get some introspection on your character! You don't need to write an essay, but give us an idea of the character as a whole in terms of camp.
